Chick Corea. In memoriam

This is the image of him I will always remember. I was then in my teens, I was hungry of jazz. He was one of the first jazz composers I found who did not belong into the glorious past of the genre. Why? I don’t know, but likely because for some reason he had chosen to call one of his most famous songs Spain.

There it was! Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez and Spain in the hands of an american music of southern Italian descent, who did not see barriers in his art, his references and images. One of those people who do not see limits where most of us see, and help you look beyond them…
